I don’t know about you, but when I see an ad appear in my feed, my first reaction is most often to be irritated. It’s virtually always irrelevant and talking about itself.
How often have you come across ads whose purpose is to provoke meaningful conversation and bring about societal change?
If you’ve not seen this recent ad from Dove (part of Unilever), it’s worth the 3+ minutes. It’s fascinating to see how Dove is pioneering in this space. They’ve been a consistent champion of girl’s mental health. And it’s certainly timely considering my last post here on Substack: How Social Media is Impacting Conversation. More saliently, this film (and the Dove Self-Esteem Project #detoxyourfeed) successfully shows how businesses can at once do good for our society by raising tricky topics and, by association, curry favor (and generate more sales). I say hat’s off to the team at Dove. This a great example of elegantly elevating the debate.
Doves ad brings hope!! A breathe of fresh air to watch! It’s genuine and raises such a great awareness! Excellent two fold marketing. A positive message and a good product is a win win!
Thank you for sharing! I really like this: a brand providing responsible advice is gaining trust with me.
It's a fascinating topic: how to build trust... within and without the company.
